Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Analytics • August 2015 - May 2019
Management Science and Engineering (Non-Degree Option) • January 2018 - June 2018
Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Levels • January 2013 - December 2014
Data Scientist• December 2018 - Present
My journey as a data scientist at UCare proved to be a fulfilling one. I was privileged to dabble with Spark and Hadoop, picking up PySpark in the process. I quickly picked up key concepts and skills like Git, Testing, and Scrum, which are valuable skills rarely covered in school. I also assisted the Data Science team in building our own internal tool to automate and streamline Data Science processes. Our internal tool is a constant work in progress and we have used it to shorten our data science workflow by 2-3 man-days per data scientist!
I worked on several proof-of-concepts (POCs) on various problem statements. One POC improved an exisiting model in production by 33%, while another will be put into production at the company's first overseas client. Working on these projects have affirmed my goals in using Data Science for a good cause (in this case healthcare), and have also increased my confidence in using raw real-world datasets to solve actual clients' business problems.
Payments Analyst & Financial Analyst Intern• August 2017 - July 2018
I scored a rare internship opportunity at Emergent Payments, a Payments Start-up in California. The experience was crucial in my discovery of my strengths and weaknesses, and I also picked up valuable project management skills. I worked on a variety of business and financial analytics projects, exploring the use of Python, R, and SQL in reporting. As a Payments analyst, I wrote a script using Python pandas to automate reporting process, which reduced report generation time from 1-1.5 hours to 10-15 minutes a week). My role as a Financial Analyst also saw me performing financial analytics on cash flows, settlements and remmittance using Excel and R. One of the most memorable projects was creating a PowerBI report for the visualization and exploration of a customer suvery, which was well-received by the executives.
Data Science Intern • December 2016
I was privileged to work at MoolahSense, a B2B-lending FinTech Start-up in Singapore. The internship was crucial as it not only heightened my confidence in my technical skills, it also challenged my communication skills. I worked on the initial stages of a data analytics project, and explored the collection and processing of data for different business metrics. I also picked up new skills, such as data visualization with Tableau, SQL Queries, and advanced Excel. I was given the opportunity to present my ideas in weekly company and department meetings, which allowed me to hone my presentation skills. As a side project, I also created an automated system for the collection, processing, and visualization of customer feedback data. The system reduced time spent on the task from 3 hours (when done manually) to 10-15 minutes a week.
